Abstract
In this paper I claim that the debate between Putnam and Devitt on the model-theoretic argument has reached the stage of an impasse, since it gives rise to a redundant sequence of questions and answers. Moreover, I suggest that the impasse in question relies on another, deeper one, concerning the debate on the methodology of the philosophical research.
